Listed below are curriculum projects that have been created by teachers and students of School District #22 that support learning in our schools. They are divided into three sections - Literacy, Adapted and Transformational which are the levels of learning depicted in Bernajean Porter's Technology Learning Spectrum.

Projects at the Literacy Level
  • How to word process a report that includes pictures from the internet, camera or scanner.
  • How to make templates for timetables and classlists in Appleworks and Word.
  • How to navigate around your computer, making new folders, saving documents, connect and using printers and other peripherals.
  • How to teach young students to log in to the school network, find applications, save documents, print documents, retrieve saved documents, find shared documents, and delete old documents.
  • How to use the school scanner.
  • How to use the school network to place files in folders that can be accessed by your students.
  • How to use Kid Pix and Kid Pix Slideshow.
  • How to create a classroom newsletter using a Word, Works, Word Perfect, Appleworks or any other word processor.
  • How to use HyperStudio by doing a simple project like “All About Me.”
  • How to use the basic tools of PowerPoint.
  • How to use the basic tools of a Web page program such as DreamWeaver or Adobe PageMill.
  • How to use Netscape Composer (free program) to create a simple web page.
  • How to create web pages using Dreamweaver.
  • How to create web pages using Mozilla and Netscape.
  • How to create web pages using raw html.
  • How to take pictures on the school camera, download them, and insert them into a document.
  • How to create a slideshow of the pictures taken on the school camera (great for year end assemblies).
  • How to use the digital video camera and edit the film using iMovie or a similar program.
  • How to create a slide show in Kid Pix.
  • How to create a slide show using Appleworks.
  • How to set up student accounts for internet safe e-mail using ePals.com or gaggle.net.
  • How to use Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo webmail.
  • How to use MSN Messenger to chat in real time with friends and family.

  • How to create a spreadsheet to track the success of your school’s food bank program.

Projects at the Adapted Level
  • Students develop reports in Social Studies and Science using desktop publishing.
  • Students learn how to research the internet without plagiarizing.
  • Students create HyperStudio Heritage books about their ancestry that include old photos that have been scanned and imported into their stack.
  • Students create a Fairy Tale Newspaper where news-like are written and illustrated about Fairy Tale incidents
  • Primary students demonstrate knowledge of colour by creating pictures in Kip Pix about different colours.
  • Primary students create a KidPix slide show about a story read in class.
  • Students present Science, Social Studies and Language Arts reports using HyperStudio and PowerPoint.
  • Students write and illustrate poetry using PowerPoint. (O Canada)
  • Students create their own web page about First Nations People – First Nations Legends, First Nations ABC Book.
  • Students use the school digital camera to illustrate the class or school newspaper.
  • Teachers and students create a slideshow of the pictures taken on the school camera (great for year end assemblies).
  • Teachers use the digital video camera to film field trips, other special events and film Readers Theatre.
  • Teachers create internet safe e-mail using ePals.com or gaggle.net so students can collaborate with other students on weather, cultural diversity, and language.
  • Teachers and students use MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger to instantly message friends, family, colleagues and students.
  • Students create a spreadsheet that tracks the success of Canadian Athletes in World Events such as the Summer or Winter Olympics.
  • Teachers report to the administration, parents, and students using Report Writer.
  • Teachers use a database to create IEP documents and other helpful reusable forms.
  • Teacher directs students in the adaptation of Kidspiration software to aid in the research process.
  • The classroom teacher posts homework on a web page for students and parents to view from home.
  • Teachers find and use tried and true lesson plans found on the internet.
  • The teacher and selected students create a yearbook for the class or school using desktop publishing applications.
  • Teachers use Google Earth to play a classroom version of The Amazing Race.

Projects at the Transformational Level

  • Students word process part of a report that includes pictures from the Internet, camera or scanner, and then e-mail it to their working partner in another school for editing. The working partner from the other school e-mails his part of the same report back to the student for editing. Once proof read and edited, both partners hand in a complete report to their respective teachers.
  • Primary students use internet safe e-mail to share their computer drawn pictures of their home and community. Students also trade information about how their homes and communities are similar and different.
  • Students establish contact with an “ask the expert” (Scientists, Authors, etc.) on the internet to learn first hand how something works or how something is written. They take what they learn from the online mentor, produce a project then sent it to their online mentor for evaluation.
  • Students use video and audio conferencing to connect and communicate with astronauts. Students assemble experiments then ask the astronauts if the experiment would be valuable to conduct in space.
  • Students design and maintain part of the school website, complete with up-to-date reports on activities such as spirit days, sports events, and guest speakers. Teachers are sought for approval of final product. Creating, devising, and manipulating the web pages is a student centered activity.
  • Students taking a second language such and Japanese or French use internet safe e-mail with a translator to communicate with students in the other country. Students work on using the translator less and less as the project develops.
  • Students design Internet Treasure Hunts for other students to complete. Students then turn in their results to the student creators who then evaluate the student assignments. Marks and copies of the Treasure Hunt are then turned into the teacher.
  • Students create Web Quests and post them on the internet for other students and teachers to use.
  • Students use Digital video cameras and iMovie to create public service ads, commercials, and short films.
  • Students use the digital still camera, scanner, and pictures from the internet to produce current event timeline comparing events in their lives with world events.
  • Students use iMovie to create television spots about environmental issues to be aired on local television.
  • Students use iMovie to create original narrated book videos.
  • Students use iMovie for digital storytelling.
  • Students use Inspiration and Kidspiration to create works of writing that are graphically and textually organized using technology.
  • Students create a podcast about a curriculum area of their choice – Science experiment
  • Students create their own interactive weblogs that are teacher monitored – blogmeister.com
  • Students use a web camera and iChat video/audio conferencing, and iWeb to share ideas, create and publish curriculum focused websites.
