Improve Student Learning

It is the goal of the SD22 Technology Initiative to improve student learning. Our District follows Bernajean Porter's model of teaching and learning with technology. Porter's Technology Learning Spectrum is the foundation of the SD22 Technology Mentorship Program and Laptops for Teachers.

Actions in Place Now

  • District Technology Resource - Technology Resource Teacher - Professional Development Models
    • Emergent On-Site Technology In-Service Model - EOTMISM -
      • The District Technology Resource Teacher uses this model to help teachers use technology as at tool. Teachers are encouraged to take the curriculum already being taught in their class and introduce technology to enhance and improve the delivery and learning of that curriculum.

  • After School Workshops
    • Workshops on specific applications are offered several times a year.

  • Computer Resource Teachers at every school to help with teaching with technology
    • The CRT is the foundation of the SD22 Technology Initiative. Not only are they on the front lines keeping everything running smoothly, they also mentor teachers and students in the use of technology in their studies.
    • CRTs are instrumental in organizing the very successful SD22 Technology Showcase.
    • .1 FTE is assigned to the CRT position at every elementary school and .125 FTE per lab is assigned to the CRT position at every secondary school

  • SD 22 Technology Showcase
    • The District Technology Resource Teacher with the help of the Computer Resource Teachers presents a technology showcase where teachers and students show how they use technology to improve the delivery of curriculum and enhance student learning. The Showcase is an excellent way to share ideas throughout our District.

What Actions Will Help Us Improve?

Please add any ideas you may have that would help improve student learning with technology.
Need a content management system that allows teachers and students to interact online to improve students learning:
  • shared projects on a wiki
  • class blogs
  • interaction between students from different schools
  • a common current events discussion board
  • Students meeting online to help each other with their homework
  • Students cooperatively sharing work online to help/teach each other - build instructional media teaching a concept.
  • building a network of Parents as Partners for student learning...and support the "other" efforts of school staffs

How Will We Know We Are Successful

Please add any ideas you may have that would suggest we are succeeding with improving student learning.
  • Students will be interacting online working collaboratively on curriculum.
  • Students will indicate greater enjoyment of learning.
  • Student content will be online -resources for other students will exist
  • Students will demonstrate increased skill and independence when using various technologies to gather information and represent their knowledge.
